Flemington is the oldest continuing metropolitan racecourses in Australia and one of the nation's great iconic sporting venues. It's significance to our culture and the country's racing heritage saw it placed on the National Heritage List in 2006.
On the first Tuesday of November each year, the race that stops the nation is held at Flemington. It is estimated that around 700 million people watch the Cup on television throughout 170 countries and millions more tune in via the radio or Internet. Flemington has also been a great centre for horse training. Many of Australia's most famous trainers have maintained stables at or near the course.
