Melbourne Cricket Ground
July 8th 2008 04:00
The Melbourne Cricket Ground aka MCG is one of the city's premier sporting venues and widely regarded as one of the best cricket grounds in the world.
The MCG was built in 1853 and is located in Yarra Park, within walking distance from the city centre.
Besides hosting the first tour by an English cricket team in 1862, the first Test match in 1877 and the first one-day international match in 1971, the MCG was the centrepiece stadium of the 1956 Olympic Games and 2006 Commonwealth Games. Today, the venue continues to host countless VFL/AFL Grand Finals, soccer matches, and rugby matches.
