The National Gallery of Victoria in Melbourne was opened in 1861 and is Australia's oldest art gallery.
Boasting an extensive collection and exhibits, the National Gallery of Victoria was split into two to meet the demands of its growing collection and extensive exhibitions schedule. The Ian Potter Centre: NGV Australia at Federation Square is the home of Australian art while NGV International at St Kilda Road is dedicated to the gallery's magnificent international artworks.
Admission to both galleries are free but fees may apply to special exhibitions.
When?
NGV International:
Open 10:0am - 5:00pm. (Closed Tuesdays except public holidays).
The Ian Potter Centre: NGV Australia
Open 10:00am - 5:00pm (Thursdays 10:00am - 9:00pm)
Closed Mondays except public holidays.
